Artists assist the host organization to communicate their message using the artist's particular art form. All types of art can be used - visual, performing, musical, etc.

Programs are designed for artists who want to serve for six to nine months in Central America.


Applicants must be fluent in Spanish. Teaching experience is helpful.

Financial Arrangements

An allowance of $1,000 is provided towards air faire. A stipend for art supplies is also available. The host organization covers room and board.

History: Created in April 1999 by New England Biolabs Foundation as a pilot project.

Field Projects executed: 2 in 2000.

Advisors sent on field projects: 3 in 2001.

Regional Activitiy: ArtCorps currently has projects in one country in Central America

Mission Statement

This project uses artists to fill the communication gap between non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and their constituencies, thereby increasing the effectiveness of their messages.
